Overview

After creating segments, you will need to manage them over time — editing rules as your business evolves, reviewing members, refreshing data, or removing segments you no longer need. This article covers all segment management tasks.

Prerequisites

  • At least one saved segment in your BeyondCart account

  • Access to the BeyondCart dashboard

Step-by-Step Guide

Editing a Segment's Rules

  1. Navigate to Segments in the left menu.

  2. Find the segment you want to edit and click its name (or use the three-dot menu and select "Edit").

  3. The segment builder opens with the current rules loaded.

  4. Make your changes:

    • Add, remove, or modify rules.

    • Change combinators (AND/OR).

    • Update the segment name or channel.

  5. Click "Preview" to verify the updated member count.

  6. Click "Save Segment" to apply your changes.

Viewing Segment Members

  1. Click on a segment name from the segments list.

  2. The segment detail page shows the full member list.

  3. Each member entry displays:

    • Name — The user's first and last name.

    • Email — The user's email address (if available).

    • Orders — Total number of orders placed.

    • LTV — Lifetime value.

    • Last Active — The date the user was last active in the app.

  4. Use the search bar to find a specific user within the segment.

  5. Click any member row to view their full profile.

Refreshing a Segment

Dynamic segments update automatically as user data changes. However, if you want to force an immediate recalculation:

  1. Open the segment detail page.

  2. Click the "Refresh" button in the top-right corner.

  3. The member count and list update to reflect the latest data.

This is useful after bulk data imports or large Shopify sync operations.

Duplicating a Segment

  1. From the segments list, click the three-dot menu on the segment you want to copy.

  2. Select "Duplicate".

  3. A new segment is created with the same rules and a name like "Copy of [Original Name]."

  4. Open the duplicate to rename it and adjust the rules as needed.

  5. Save the updated segment.

Deleting a Segment

  1. From the segments list, click the three-dot menu on the segment.

  2. Select "Delete".

  3. Confirm the deletion in the dialog that appears.

Important: Deleting a segment is permanent. If any active flows or campaigns reference this segment, they will no longer be able to target it. Review your flows before deleting.

Checking Segment Usage

Before editing or deleting, you may want to know where a segment is being used:

  1. Open the segment detail page.

  2. Scroll to the "Used In" section at the bottom.

  3. This section lists all flows and campaigns that reference the segment.

Key Concepts

  • Editing rules updates membership in real time. As soon as you save updated rules on a dynamic segment, the member list recalculates.

  • Deleting is permanent and affects connected flows. Always check the "Used In" section before removing a segment.

  • Duplicating is non-destructive. The original segment remains unchanged when you create a copy.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Audit segments quarterly. Review your segment library every few months. Remove segments that are no longer relevant and update thresholds that may have drifted.

  • Check "Used In" before deleting. If a segment is referenced in an active flow, deleting it can break your automation.

  • Use duplication for A/B testing audiences. Duplicate a segment, adjust one rule, and compare performance across campaigns.

  • Refresh after bulk operations. After importing data or running a large Shopify sync, refresh key segments to ensure accuracy.

FAQ

Q: Can I undo a segment deletion? A: No. Deletion is permanent. If you accidentally delete a segment, you will need to recreate it. Consider duplicating important segments as backups before making changes.

Q: Will editing a segment affect campaigns that already sent? A: No. Past campaigns used the segment membership at the time they were sent. Editing the segment only affects future campaign targeting.

Q: How do I export the member list of a segment? A: On the segment detail page, click the "Export" button to download the member list as a CSV file.

Q: Can I merge two segments? A: There is no direct merge feature. However, you can create a new segment that uses rules from both segments, or use OR combinators to combine their logic.
