Overview

The Wheel of Fortune is an interactive spinning wheel that appears as a WebView overlay in your mobile app. Customers tap to spin the wheel, and it lands on a randomly selected prize. It's one of the most visually engaging game types and a great way to surprise and delight your shoppers.

How It Works

  1. A customer opens the Wheel of Fortune screen in the app (or taps a deep link).

  2. The wheel overlay appears on top of the current screen.

  3. The customer taps Spin to start the wheel.

  4. The wheel spins and lands on a prize segment.

  5. The result is displayed and the prize is automatically applied or shared.

  6. One credit is deducted from the customer's balance.

Setting Up a Wheel of Fortune

  1. Go to Gamification > Games in your admin panel.

  2. Click Create Game and select Wheel of Fortune.

  3. Configure the game details — name, description, and status.

  4. Add prize segments to the wheel. For each segment, set:

    • Prize type — Shopify coupon, product, deep link, or "no prize."

    • Label — The text displayed on the wheel segment (e.g., "10% Off").

    • Probability — The chance of landing on this segment.

  5. Configure play limits (once per day or once per game).

  6. Optionally enable guest access and test mode.

  7. Save and set the status to Active when ready.

Deep Linking

Send customers directly to the Wheel of Fortune using:

  • Deep link: beyondcart://wheel

Use this in push notifications, email campaigns, or in-app banners to drive traffic to the game.

Key Concepts

  • WebView Overlay — The wheel renders inside a WebView layered on top of the app. This allows for rich animations without a native app update.

  • Probability Weighting — You control how likely each segment is to be selected. All probabilities across segments should total 100%.

  • No-Prize Segments — Include "better luck next time" segments to balance prize distribution.

Tips

  • Use 6 to 8 segments for the best visual balance.

  • Always include at least one no-prize segment to manage costs.

  • Test your wheel in test mode to verify the spin animation and prize logic.

  • Pair with a push notification campaign for maximum participation.

FAQ

Can I customize the look of the wheel? The wheel uses a pre-built design optimized for mobile. You can customize segment labels and colors through the admin panel.

What happens if two prizes have equal probability? They are equally likely to be selected. The system uses a random number generator weighted by your configured probabilities.

Does the wheel work offline? No. The WebView overlay requires an active internet connection.
