Overview

Segment Recipes are pre-built segment templates designed by BeyondCart's marketing team. They give you a fast starting point for common audience types — no need to figure out which rules and values to use from scratch. Pick a recipe, review the pre-configured rules, customize if needed, and save.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the BeyondCart dashboard

  • At least one communication channel enabled (Push, Email, or SMS)

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1 — Open the Recipe Library

  1. Navigate to Segments in the left menu.

  2. Click "Create Segment".

  3. In the segment builder, click the "Recipes" tab.

Step 2 — Browse Available Recipes

The recipe library contains pre-built templates for common use cases. Each recipe card shows:

  • Recipe name — A short descriptive title (e.g., "VIP Customers," "At-Risk Churners").

  • Description — A summary of who the segment targets and why it is useful.

  • Rule preview — A quick look at the rules included.

Here are some of the available recipes:

  • VIP Customers — Targets users with high lifetime value and multiple orders. Great for exclusive offers.

  • At-Risk Churners — Targets users who were once active but have not ordered or visited recently. Ideal for win-back campaigns.

  • New Subscribers — Targets users who registered recently but have not made a first purchase.

  • Frequent Buyers — Targets users with a low average number of days between orders.

  • High AOV Shoppers — Targets users whose average order value exceeds a defined threshold.

  • Wishlist Holders — Targets users with items in their wishlist, perfect for sale alerts.

  • Cart Abandoners — Targets users who added items to cart but did not complete checkout.

  • Re-Engagement — Targets users who have not opened the app in a set number of days.

Step 3 — Apply a Recipe

  1. Click on a recipe card to select it.

  2. The recipe's pre-configured rules are loaded into the segment builder automatically.

  3. A default segment name based on the recipe is filled in.

Step 4 — Customize the Rules

Recipes are starting points, not locked templates. After applying a recipe, you can:

  • Adjust values — Change the LTV threshold from $500 to $300 or the order count from 5 to 3.

  • Add rules — Layer on additional conditions like "Has App Session in last 14 days."

  • Remove rules — Drop any rule that does not fit your specific use case.

  • Change combinators — Switch from AND to OR or restructure nested groups.

Step 5 — Select a Channel, Preview, and Save

  1. Choose the target channel (Push, Email, or SMS).

  2. Click "Preview" to verify the member count looks right.

  3. Update the segment name if needed.

  4. Click "Save Segment".

Key Concepts

  • Recipes are templates, not segments. Applying a recipe populates the segment builder — it does not create a saved segment until you click Save.

  • Recipes use the same rules as manual segments. There is nothing special about the rules in a recipe. They are the same rule types, operators, and values you would select yourself.

  • Recipes are regularly updated. BeyondCart adds new recipes over time based on common merchant needs and marketing best practices.

Tips and Best Practices

  • Start with recipes if you are new to segmentation. They teach you effective rule combinations by example.

  • Use recipes as a learning tool. Even if you plan to build custom segments, reviewing recipe configurations helps you understand which rule combinations work well together.

  • Combine recipes with the AI Builder. Apply a recipe as a base, then use the AI Builder to add additional rules described in natural language.

  • Create your own "recipes" by duplicating segments. Once you build a segment you like, duplicate it to use as a starting point for variations.

FAQ

Q: Can I create my own recipes? A: Custom recipe creation is not currently available. However, you can duplicate any saved segment to use it as a personal template.

Q: Do recipes update automatically after I save a segment from one? A: No. Once you save a segment based on a recipe, it becomes an independent segment. Updates to the recipe library do not affect your saved segments.

Q: Are all recipes available on every plan? A: Most recipes are available on all plans. Some advanced recipes may be available on higher-tier plans only.
